Motorola starts rolling out Android 4.4.4 to some devices and regions

 

Despite there being very few differences between Android 4.4.2 and 4.4.4, Motorola is determined to keep its devices on the latest version of Android. Not only was there a limited rollout of Android 4.4.3 for a few devices, now some devices are getting Android 4.4.4. That’s the absolute latest version of Android available. 

According to Motorola, the Moto G should be seeing the update in Brazil and India, the Moto E should see it in Brazil, France, Canada, an Asia Pacific, and the DROID Ultra will be getting it in the US. There is no word on the Moto X yet, but we’re sure Motorola will get to it soon as updates have been really fast from Moto lately. 

With this update, you’ll get the new dialer that Nexus devices saw, along with enhanced camera quality and pausing video recording. Then there are security fixes and bug fixes, as expected from such a small update. You won’t notice many differences, but it’s amazing of Motorola to be rolling out updates at this speed.

Android L's release is still a few months out for the general public, so at this point we're happy to catch any glimpse we can of Google's new OS.



This includes when Android L appears in a video running on a mysterious device that even the person leaking the footage can't identify.

TK Tech News says in the video that it has received images of the mystery 1080p handset from an unidentified tipster, and that it is not entirely sure which smartphone it is.

"Maybe it's a test device," he speculates. "I can tell you it's a lot bigger than the Moto X, and I can tell you it's bigger than the Nexus 5." That puts it upward of 5-inch — exciting indeed.

TK also speculated that it might be one of three new Droid phones scheduled to hit Verizon this year — the mysterious Android L phone in the photos is running on Verizon — or a variant of the Moto X+1, also coming out this year.

There's no way to know until the techie grills his source a little harder, but in the meantime at least we can ooh and ahh at the possibilities. The phablet in question does sport the new Android L icons, as well as Android L's new navigation buttons.

Of course this could all be a really pedantic hoax, though TK swears "it's legit."

Until we find out either way, we'll be watching out for Motorola announcements.

That will take time though as Android L is still only available for developer preview. Motorola is rolling out the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for all its phones right now.

Yesterday we reported that all Motorola phones in the country would be getting the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update. The company is reportedly also going to bring the Android L update to its Moto X and Moto G smartphones. While the Moto X is the company’s flagship product, Moto G was the first Motorola phone launched in the country.

The information was first published by Android Origin, which got screenshots of conversations with the company’s customer care. The customer care representative though mentioned that information about the Moto E wasn’t available at the moment. “For the Moto E, we do not have any information as of today,” said the executive.

Google though has unveiled only the developer preview of Android L till now. This means that there may still be changes and the information may turn out to be incorrect. Motorola though has often promised an update to the ‘next major Android version’ for its smartphones.

In the latest version of Android, Motorola offers more security for browsing web content on your phone. According to the company officials, the Motorola customers can upgrade their smartphones for free of cost. All they need to pay is for the usual data connection charges.

The users of the three smartphone models will receive notifications to update their Operating System. They can also get the updates manually by scrolling through the settings menu.

Motorola has announced via Twitter that it has started rolling out Android 4.4.4 update for the Moto X, Moto G and Moto E smartphones in the Indian market.

The update is being released in phases, so not everyone will get the update right-away but it should reach your Motorola phone in the coming days. As soon as the update is available for your phone, you will get a notification, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

You can also manually check for the update by going to Settings > About Phone < Software update.

As Motorola did not roll-out Android 4.4.3 for any of the phones in India, the latest update will skip Android 4.4.3 and will directly take Moto X, E and G to Android 4.4.4. The update size is said to be between 50-75MB depending on whether it is Moto E, G or X.

According to Motorola, the update will include several stability, framework and security fixes as well as new phone dialler and OpenSSL-related fixes.
