It seems that you may see a few more Android smartphones by Microsoft in coming time. The company is reportedly expanding its Windows Phone-powered Lumia line to include an Android smartphone.
Twitter user EVLeaks, which has a good track record of leaking information about gadgets, has said that Android-powered Lumia smartphones are currently being developed under the 'Nokia by Microsoft' brand. No further details have been provided yet.
Nokia unveiled its first Android-powered smartphones under the Nokia X brand earlier this year. The trio of low-end smartphones, named Nokia X, X+ and XL, was positioned a "feeder" system for Nokia's Lumia phones and replaced Google's services with Microsoft's.
In June this year, Microsoft (after finalizing the acquisition of Nokia) released Nokia X2, which brought a few software improvements on the table. The new software was not released for Nokia X, X+ and XL.
Despite introducing Android to its ranks, Nokia and then Microsoft kept its Lumia series for Windows Phone only till now. The latest Windows Phone update, 8.1, has bridged the gap between Microsoft's mobile OS and Android to quite an extent.
EVLeaks has also said that Microsoft Surface Mini, the smaller version of Surface tablet, is back in production. Though there were several rumours of Microsoft readying Surface Mini for launch in May this year, the company unveiled Surface Pro 3. Now, according to the tweet below, the tablet will be launched next summer.
It is said that Microsoft Surface Mini will be the best note-taking tablet and have a 7.5-inch screen with 1440x1080p resolution. The tablet will run on Windows 8.1 OS instead of Windows RT and is expected to be powered by an ARM chip. This device may feature 3G and 4G connectivity, which current Surface models do not have.
